Talk to us!Hey guys,
It's been a long time since we've had a chat as a photomanipulation community. Emerald-Depths and I would like to know how things are going for you. What's new? What would you like to see more from us? What kinds of projects are you interested in seeing? What is going well? What needs to be improved?
Most of all, why are things so quiet??
I know a lot of us are super busy, but I think what we all have in common is that we love our photomanipulation community and want to see it grow. We all need to work together to make that happen, but how? What can we do to save our community?
Your honest thoughts and opinions are welcome. We will also have a chat to discuss some of the issues you raise.

The WOW Effect: Why it rocks!Hi everyone,
So . . . for our "The Wow Effect" month here at we-HEART-photomanip, I wanted to show some of my favorite photomanipulations of all time and explain why they are so amazing to me. Let's get started!
I'm starting with something a little bit older, but it is my favorite piece on deviantART. Foxfires has captured a very precious moment for the main character. See how the light seems to make her glow, illuminating and softening her expression, lifting her hair, giving her dimension? The light around the model is hard but not overpowering, and the lamps are clearly lit without being overdone. The surroundings, while bright and colorful, are less bright and colorful, and the shape of the wagon and the lines in the ladder draw the viewer's eye up to the model. Also, did you notice the fox?
I very much like the composition of this image; the viewer's eye is drawn to the

That's how you get pageviewsAnd here you have the number one question that people ask me:
"How the hell did you get so many people to view your art? You're not even that good!"
I can't do anything other than honestly admitting that I'm not that good at art. I'm not some awesomely skilled concept artist, at least. I've seen many people do a better job while receiving a lot less of attention.
Why a medium like DeviantArt works for me? Probably because I've been around on the internet for so long, and I've spend so much time working for internet-marketing company's, that things like advertising and web usability have become a second nature to me. A lot of the things that I've come to regard as common sense in internet communication, are things that are nowadays proven successful by research.
It's important to know that websites like DeviantArt are listed in the category social media. That probably didn't occur to most people, since DeviantArt seems to be so heavily focused towards art (and tradi

How to get feedback on dAWe all joined this site, more or less for this reason, to get feedback on our art. The whole point of submitting art online is for people to see it and hear what they think about it.
Now there are a lot of deviants out there who get little to no feedback and as a result ask the people who faved their art to comment or go to random people on dA and ask for them to look at their art or comment in the hopes that the person will be kind enough to return the favor.
A message to the people who do that, you're doing it all wrong.
Sure, if you ask 20 people who faved your drawing what they thought about it, you might get 1 or 2 answers, but in return, you'll be ignored by say 10 people and you'll annoy 8 people. I get these comments and i'm telling you, begging for feedback is not the way to go, if someone didn't comment when they fave, what makes you think forcing their hand is the right way to go?
A fav is a compliment, take it a it is. Not everyone has
PE: How to Make Pixel CloudsHow to Make Pixel Clouds
In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to make pixel clouds. I have two different types of clouds I use depending on the piece; semi-realistic, and cartoon style. I will be showing you both today!
Let us start!
The semi realistic style can be done two ways, depending on if you are limiting colors or not.
First, I'm going to show you the way for if you do not care how many colors you use.
First you will pull out your pencil brush, as you would normally do when making pixel art, and set the color to white. After that, set the opacity to around 10%-20%.
Randomly brush side to side with the pencil, and then overlap some lines randomly as well.
Keep doing that until the cloud if about as big as you need it; it should look something like this.c:

Kiriban at 1.000.000 - CaughtIt's as simple as it gets;
Catch my 1.000.000th pageview and get a free head-shot sketch from your character (or any character that you like).
(Screenshot needs to be fullscreen and send to me by private message)
The kiriban is caught.
Anyone bother to explain me how it is possible that 2 people caught the exact same thing on screenshot???
After hearing from multiple people having experience with more than 1 guy catching their kiriban, I can only come to the conclusion that it's reasonable.
DA's counter is probably flawed, in the sense that it only counts an IP once. Which would lead people that spend hours refreshing my page, being able to keep track of the pageviews without actually influencing themselves. It's still kind of weird to think that kind of thing actually happens and people are
Olympia: Manet's Biggest ScandalÉdouard Manet (1832-1883), a French painter who is sometimes considered one of the founders of the style of impressionism, caused quite a few scandals throughout his career.
Many of these scandals came into being because of the subject matter which he chose to portray in his paintings. Additionally, there were many critics who found fault in his painting style. Surprisingly, despite the sometimes violent reactions to his works, what Manet was really seeking throughout his painting career was official recognition as a great artist of his time.
At a young age, Manet found in his father an extreme opposition to his desired career as an artist. His father was a magistrate who thought that Manet should choose a “recognized” profession. Attempting to appease his father, Manet tried and fai
August Arts and Health Challenge: JoyHi everyone,
We are opening a new month on a positive note; the challenge theme for August will be Joy. Living with a health condition (or caring for others who do) does not have to be all doom-and-gloom! What are the things that bring you joy, even amid the darkness?
Joy is essential to life. Researchers have shown that, generally speaking, people who have more joy in their lives tend also to be healthier. Sometimes in life, it is too easy to forget to take a moment and drink in something that makes us joyful. It is medicine in and of itself.
Your entries to this challenge should focus on the theme, "JOY."
Here are the rules:
You can enter as many times as you want, but you must be a member of Arts-and-Health to participate.
The admins and/or guests will choose one winner to receive a three-month subscription-- something large enough to be rewarding but not so large that it is coercive.
We will judge based on, "Which piece moved us the most?"
Her CatalystAs she walks through the maelstrom, the words trace upon the tips of her fingers and press into the stone. Every brick, every crack in the concrete, every crossed and angular stroke in reds and blacks and oranges. The drips of the gasoline pool around the base of her boots, slosh as she steps over the burst pipes and the rubble.
So much rubble. So little outcry. The silence of the city grates on her eardrums and the mantras she'd been forced to memorize. The Seers demanded they observe thirteen years of recitation before they attempt to weave their first World together.
But who other than the Seers can claim the incantations that knot the skeins they twist and pull on like reins hold fast? When have any of the Sisters recorded the visions they traced upon space-time and recited them, left them open for critique and discussion and debate?
Which is why she walks through the chalky soot of the smashed city around her. This all
