Getting 'over it'You're special and unique, just like everybody else.
The magnanimous Dr. Maya Angelou once said, "We are more alike, my friends, than we are different." This statement is more true than it may appear on the surface. As humans, we all face the same fears (not being adequate or liked) and the same struggles (with anxiety, depression, and others of life's challenges), even though they may seem different at the time. Sometimes the magnitude is different, perhaps, but we all want to belong and be accepted.
It's so easy to get caught in the trap of thinking, "No one understands me. I'm all alone." That may or may not be the case, but either way, whether it is reality or perception (and really, reality is perception), we cannot let it defeat us. Take a look around DeviantArt, and even the mental-health community. We all have pain, and we all suffer something or other in our lives. Again, it may be a difference in magnitude, but it is part of being human.

10 Ways to Improve the Quality of our PhotomanipsOn the "decline" of quality in the photomanipulation gallery
I've seen a lot of polls, journals, etc. recently about the quality of the photomanipulation gallery and fears that it has declined. I have intentionally not commented, but I will address the issue here. I think our beloved community is going through a "learning phase" where we are rediscovering ourselves and our art. We have a lot-- a LOT-- of new people, and I want to wish them a warm welcome because they are critical to our vitality as a community..
In turn, a lot of our older, more experienced artists have moved on, frequently owing to time constraints due to having more commissions and freelance work.
So, saying our quality has declined is really not fair. Rather, we are in a cycle of change that happens every couple of years within our community.
It is perhaps true that we have reached a collective slump in creativity. Like inspires like, and I see the same thing over and

Attention Science Nerds!Images from hoarder-ofthe-phoenix on tumblr.com
Is that you?
Do you have nerd-like tendencies?
Do you understand what they are talking about on The Big Bang Theory? Bonus points if you can catch their errors . . .
Do you dream in numbers and statistics?
Do you just fucking love science? (And do you know where that reference comes from?)
Do you have a secret fascination with facts and a practically pathological need to prove others wrong?
Do you have an uncanny ability to understand human behavior and believe firmly that all things have a logical, plausible explanation?
If so, I might be talking to you . . .
We're looking for a few good nerds . . .
. . . for a project that some of us are putting together. Are you a social scientist? Psychologist? Biologist/Zoologist? Mathematician? Statistician? Biomedical scientist? Other?? We love you all!

How to get better at artPeople keep asking me what programs i use, and what program is the best for drawing and what brushes i used for this artwork or that. Those are legitimate questions, sure, but not entirely accurate. There are differences between programs and brushes, but in the end, they are all tools. They are tools artists use to put their imagination onto a canvas. Just like a traditional artist can use 10 different brushes to paint an artwork, or just one single brush, digital art is the same in that regard. There is no one brush that can achieve an effect that none other can. Sure it's a little more difficult if you're using one brush type to draw everything, but not impossible. Artists might have hundreds of brushes in Photoshop but in truth, we use 2-5 brushes the most and those hundreds only in special cases. I personally use a hard brush and a soft brush for 90% of things, what i do change is the opacity and turn the pressure on and off, change the size etc.

PureThe thing about getting known is that people say funny things to you. Most of it is bullshit. Some of it is true, and some of it is downward inconsiderate. Some of it does make me think, though.
One of those things said to me, a while ago, was that I wasn't so much of an artist.
That, despite the fact that I was decently known on the internet nowadays, I didn't make actual great art.
(The actual comment phrased it somewhere along the lines of "famous as hell, but still draws like a college art student")
And you know what I thought? This guy actually did have a solid point. The way he worded it down was just... not so clever.
Throughout my life I've seen people with great skills in everything. I've learned soon enough that people typically see themselves as either a left-brain or a right-brain thinker, meaning so much that their either go with logic or intuition, and are often either good with numbers or social skills/art (that come with that). While many of these tests whe

Troll pollution? What's up with all the troll accounts of really bad taste lately?
I wish dA would simply ban these people, when they are polluting this site on purpose and act like total jerks screaming for attention? (I mean, it's not even funny at all.) There are these people I have to keep reporting, since they upload commissioned works and my clients are really unhappy about it. Once it gets taken down, I have to report it AGAIN AND AGAIN since it get reposted again!? I have MUCH better things to do than deal with kids like this.
And they accuse the real artists to steal from them when the trust is so obvious? What kind of trolling is that, are they even trying?
And the death threat jokes...
This have gone way too far beyond stupidity x__x
I'm not sure if people realise they can get in LEGIT trouble for doing things like this? (but they are probably too young and ignorant to care) are they really that desperate and have nothing better and productive to do? That's really... sad.
Now it's just extre
Art and overthinkingDear, deviantart fellow artists
There are times when everything goes well, but sometimes It's so easy to let those thoughts (whether caused by fear, life, problems etc.) to overcome your wilingness to do anything. So we let ourselves to get distracted, even though that's not what we really want to do. It's just easier. But we should not let overthinking to stand in our way.
People do tend to overthink all the time. Worrying about unimportant things, while doing nothing about solving actual problems. If there is anything that you think constantly about, that needs to be done - don't put it away till the later. It will only get worse. So often do we regret our decisions in the past, yet we are the only ones who can impact our future.
People also crave for disctractions. That's why probably social media sites are so popular these days. Watching youtube videos all day - It's inspiring to see how other people get success

The most amazing thing happened today! This morning, a guy rand my doorbell and i thought that was a little weird because i wasn't expecting anyone. He said he has a delivery for me with 2 tubes from deviantART. I was really surprised because i didn't remember giving my address (it was such a long time ago that i did probably) or didn't remember ordering anything and only until i opened them did i realize they were print gifts from my wishlist! But i have no idea who sent them :icontearyguyplz: They were both prints of this artwork
and i am not sure if there were too separate people who sent them (they appear to have been sent at different times) or one person. BUT WHOEVER YOU ARE THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU WONDERFUL PERSON!
The prints are amazing looking! Kudos to deviantART because the quality of the print is astonishing the prints are on material not paper and that not only makes them more durable but it also has a very neat oil painting feel to it.
This just made my week! I will
2 REQUESTS OPEN, everyone has a chancePS: NOT FIRST COME FIRST SERVE, I WILL CHOOSE TWO DEVIANTS TO GET A DRAWING LATER! xD
I made two sketches and thought that it would be fun if people could request their character to be drawn out of them, like a free YCH (Your-Character-Here).
Will choose two characters I'd like to draw out of the comments. You don't have to be a close friend or anything, EVERYONE has a chance! :3
1. Favorite this journal.
2. Be a watcher (If you don't watch me, do so now! I want to thank someone who supports me! ;D).
3. Comment with a proper reference sheet of a canine character.
You can comment with as many reference sheets as you want, but only one character can be chosen, and you can only get 1 request. The drawings will be shaded, but have no background. Please be kind and don't force, nag or push me, I'm a person who get extremely easily stressed, and if you bother me, I'll NEVER draw for you.
August Arts and Health Challenge: JoyHi everyone,
We are opening a new month on a positive note; the challenge theme for August will be Joy. Living with a health condition (or caring for others who do) does not have to be all doom-and-gloom! What are the things that bring you joy, even amid the darkness?
Joy is essential to life. Researchers have shown that, generally speaking, people who have more joy in their lives tend also to be healthier. Sometimes in life, it is too easy to forget to take a moment and drink in something that makes us joyful. It is medicine in and of itself.
Your entries to this challenge should focus on the theme, "JOY."
Here are the rules:
You can enter as many times as you want, but you must be a member of Arts-and-Health to participate.
The admins and/or guests will choose one winner to receive a three-month subscription-- something large enough to be rewarding but not so large that it is coercive.
We will judge based on, "Which piece moved us the most?"
Keep in Touch!
