Talk to us!Hey guys,
It's been a long time since we've had a chat as a photomanipulation community. Emerald-Depths and I would like to know how things are going for you. What's new? What would you like to see more from us? What kinds of projects are you interested in seeing? What is going well? What needs to be improved?
Most of all, why are things so quiet??
I know a lot of us are super busy, but I think what we all have in common is that we love our photomanipulation community and want to see it grow. We all need to work together to make that happen, but how? What can we do to save our community?
Your honest thoughts and opinions are welcome. We will also have a chat to discuss some of the issues you raise.

The WOW Effect: Why it rocks!Hi everyone,
So . . . for our "The Wow Effect" month here at we-HEART-photomanip, I wanted to show some of my favorite photomanipulations of all time and explain why they are so amazing to me. Let's get started!
I'm starting with something a little bit older, but it is my favorite piece on deviantART. Foxfires has captured a very precious moment for the main character. See how the light seems to make her glow, illuminating and softening her expression, lifting her hair, giving her dimension? The light around the model is hard but not overpowering, and the lamps are clearly lit without being overdone. The surroundings, while bright and colorful, are less bright and colorful, and the shape of the wagon and the lines in the ladder draw the viewer's eye up to the model. Also, did you notice the fox?
I very much like the composition of this image; the viewer's eye is drawn to the

Just a note that the tournament is still on. I'm just waiting to hear back from the judges. You should know something by Sunday. Please start thinking of themes you can use for your next opponents for Round 2.
Working through negativity from other peopleThe sudden attack of negativity
I will write another article about energy vampires, or the people in our lives who are constantly negative. In today's article, I am going to address the specific case where you're feeling like someone is throwing negative energy at you out of the blue.
We've all had it happen to us: We're going along through our lives, feeling happy, having a good self-esteem day, when WHAM! someone says or does something that leaves us reeling. Maybe they've criticized your art in an unwanted way, or maybe they have done something to hurt or offend you personally, as an individual.
Don't let it spiral you into negativity and feelings of worthlessness. Don't give someone else the power to make you want to leave dA or quit your job. Here are some things you can think about when you feel like you're being attacked.
Consider the circumstances.
When someone throws negativity your way, it is almost always more about t

I like doing these when I'm offline for a while. It's my way of apologizing for not keeping my promises to be more active. I'm trying! Thank you to those who continue to support me. It really is great having a backbone of support on devART-- especially when you're in a college full of super talented art MAJORS X'D I'm just a journalist major who really loves writing about her characters and occasionally drawing them.
There are two requirements, as always!
1) Be a watcher.
2) Favorite this journal.
*Otherwise, no rules. If you want to post a comment though, I'd love to talk to you! On a side note, I'm now on the MMO Final Fantasy 14! It's so pretty
And I did a thing! For the first time in forever
And then I returned...It's been a while since I've been actively online.
But even though temporary, it did changed my perspective on some matters.
It's weird how much the internet can become an influence, and how this process goes so unnoticed. At a certain point the countless voices of people around you blend into a continuous buzz. A buzz that you soon get so familiar with that you forget there was a life before it. I guess that's what social media does in general; creating a buzz. An artificial need for you to continuously be online and check your messages, because you might just miss something otherwise. Life, in general, has become so infused with the internet that it sometimes scares me. I'm part of the internet industry. Hell, I even made it my job! But even I sometimes find myself wondering where the time has gone that I could work on an artwork for hours straight, without feeling that creeping itch to check my messages.
The last few weeks before the break, I've repeatedly felt bad about

We Are Resurrecting!:iconwriters-workshop:
Following our previous journal on our zombifiction revival, I am pleased to say it is crazy enough to have a go! I don’t expect every one of our 1500 members to get involved, but even if there is a handful each time getting some good out of this, then that’s one handful getting a better attack on their writing and understanding their niches. These groups hold a great opportunity to explore and stretch even the more experienced writers, and I believe that’s what made this group so good to begin with.
The Plan Batman
So here is my plan.
In May, we will hold a new workshop. The entire workshop will be encapsulated in one month: 2 weeks to write, 2 weeks to workshop.
Week 1, Day 1: Workshop brief is launched and you have 2 weeks to submit. The standard to what you submit can be anything from a rough draft to something you have worked on, it doesn't even have to be complete yet. (Please ensure you pu
August Arts and Health Challenge: JoyHi everyone,
We are opening a new month on a positive note; the challenge theme for August will be Joy. Living with a health condition (or caring for others who do) does not have to be all doom-and-gloom! What are the things that bring you joy, even amid the darkness?
Joy is essential to life. Researchers have shown that, generally speaking, people who have more joy in their lives tend also to be healthier. Sometimes in life, it is too easy to forget to take a moment and drink in something that makes us joyful. It is medicine in and of itself.
Your entries to this challenge should focus on the theme, "JOY."
Here are the rules:
You can enter as many times as you want, but you must be a member of Arts-and-Health to participate.
The admins and/or guests will choose one winner to receive a three-month subscription-- something large enough to be rewarding but not so large that it is coercive.
We will judge based on, "Which piece moved us the most?"
Abandoned ChapelThe parish waits now,
the loneliness of corners
crawling outward on walls--
chipped away by the wind,
and held together
by silk spindles;
cobwebs align them like the membranes of memories,
the cut of a jewel in an broken window
against the sun
where beads of rain
gather in a mesh of strands
a new Mosaic
against the backdrop of a cemetery;
My eyes seek out the sermon
in close proximity,
paint no distance
between headstone and cloud;
elegies topple each other
in their climb to heaven
as light trickles
over the shade,
breathes a new glow over snuffed candles.
I feel the weight in these empty rows,
how a breath couldn't cease to be breath
in the midst of prayer.
