First, I should have known better than to start this competition while trying to finish my doctorate. I take full responsibility for the lack of organization to this point. Organization starts now!

Reprise

This competition will feature teams of 5 or fewer photomanipulators and at least 2 coaches (probably 3). You must be a photomanipulator to join, and you must have basic skills (like how to work with layers) and experience (completed at least 3 creditable photomanipulations). Over the course of 7 weeks, you will work with your coaches to improve your art and learn more about specific aspects of photomanipulation. The topics covered may include:

Cleaning up bad habits (such as problems when cutting out stock)
Composition
Light & shadow, including using Curves
Masking and other advanced techniques for blending

(Note: This is only a generalization, and these weeks may change according to what the coaches want to lead and the needs of the team members.) Coaches can divide up who will lead each part, or they may tag-team everything the whole way. It is up to the coaches (with our full support) to determine the best way to lead their teams.

I will say that our coaches this year are PHENOMENAL artists. I wish I could play! But I am not telling you who they are until the contest begins.

You will then have the last 3 weeks to create a deviation on a theme that will be given to you at that time. Each person on the team will create their own deviation, and you will support and critique one another's work.

Teams will be judged as a whole based on the final manipulations, team processes, and meeting individuals' goals that they state when they sign up. Dropping out could hurt your team. Each member, including coaches, of the winning team will receive 2,000 points and a $20 print of your choice from Community Relations. You will also receive features in CRPhotomanipulation.

Those of you who haven't returned your form yet, please do so by July 25th so we can get this thing organized and ready for the coaches. If you do not return your form and we have a waiting list, you may lose your place.

We are building a waitlist and anticipate having room on the teams for 1 more member. Please sign up (by noting CRPhotomanipulation) no later than July 25th so we can group members and mentors and begin on time.

We will start in early August (probably the 2nd) and run through mid-September. Coaches will get information about their teams well before that date.
