Working on ChaturangaHi all,
The hardest pose for me in yoga has been Chaturanga, the "low plank" pose in your sun salutation between plank and upward-facing dog. It's the main reason I abhor sun salutations. I learned recently that many of us hate this pose or movement because we are doing it wrong. I figured I'd do some research to see if this is really the case, and sure enough, yep, I'm not doing it right.
Doing poses incorrectly has the potential to be extremely bad for your health because it can cause injury.
I found this really interesting article from the Daily Burn that seems to be helpful in guiding you through what a Chaturanga really should look like, and I wanted to share: http://dailyburn.com/life/fitness/chaturanga-yoga-pose/
Here is another description of the pose from Yoga Journal: http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/469
Finally, a walk-through YouTube video:
I hope this is useful to you. It has really been helpful to me.
Whose life is it, anyway? All I do these days is write. Manuscripts, dissertation, course schedules and syllabi . . . it never ends. Tonight I got tired of writing, so I decided to organize something. The obvious choice for me was my CD (I just aged myself, I know) and blu-ray disk collections.
Going back through the CDs brought back a lot of memories for me; some of them were from high school, which was more years ago than I care to admit. Each piece of music had a story and an attached memory, whether it was my beloved Def Leppard or some silly pop song. But, as I went through them and discarded what I no longer needed or desired, it suddenly occurred to me:
I'm not this person anymore.
At the core of my collection lay those things I treasure to this day. Evanescence. Def Leppard. Led Zeppelin. Old-school Aerosmith. Even the requisite Beethoven, Bach, Haendel, and Tchaikovsky. Things that make me cry. Things that make me want to sing along. Anthems that remind me
Notable NewcomersHello, all!
I wanted to feature some new photomanipulators. Each of these talented artists has been on DA for less than a year, yet they have taken concepts to a whole new level. Please welcome them and offer your support!
Underwater scenes have been done before, but I really like the way this artist added interesting elements in the background and created a wistful, reflective feeling. Also, his lighting is really nice.
This artist has a wonderful mastery of colors and light. The idea of staring down over a city is not new, but the interesting, creative way she presents the concept is very original.
This quite emotional conceptual piece stands out from the crowd because of the artist's powerful interpretation of the stock model. The artist also uses color and light effectively.
The artist has a super cool concept here, and he blends a lot of stock images together
Manip AcademyIntroducing a new project!
Manip Academy (thanks, cristii, for inspiration for the name) is a new photomanipulation project inspired by projecteducate. We all love to learn, and we learn best from one another. Here's our chance to share what we know.
Manip Academy is an education initiative designed to spread the knowledge and the love. It is a collaboration between CRPhotomanipulation and we-HEART-photomanip. We will share tips and tricks for photomanipulation success. It is difficult to write tutorials, but anyone can write a simple tip or describe how they achieved a specific effect.
This project will feature two weekly articles written by the community every week, on Mondays and Thursdays. This will be an ongoing project within our community, and we hope that many people will take advantage of the chance to sign up to submit one blog or even just a few sentences to help the community.

Beginner Yoga Stuffs!Long time no write!
I wanted to share some beginner goodies I've found with you. I'd love to hear how everyone is doing with their practices (beginner or otherwise), too!
Remember: If you need props or modifications for a given pose, you can find them on Yoga Journal (click "modifications" under the pose of your choice).

Also, check out these really fantastic YouTube playlists that contain videos of all the different poses!
Don't let the name "Vinyasa Flow" scare you. It is simply about the flow of energy and breath.

Photomanipulation Update: July 2014Hello out there!
How is everyone? We wanted to give you all an update on some exciting things that are happening in our community. As always, if you have anything to add, please note Aeirmid or Emerald-Depths.
Congratulations are in order!
We wanted to take a moment to recognize the fact that a member of our community, Cinnamoncandy, has been awarded senior status! YAY! Congratulations! This is an honor bestowed on very few people here on DeviantArt, and we are really excited for her. Please take a moment to congratulate her! Leave some love on her profile page or drop her a note. Let her know we are here to celebrate with her.
Project Educate feature
Project Educate (projecteducate) is gearing up for a gallery week in August, where we'll be featuring art from all of the galleries on the site. We will have two journals dedicated to photomanipulation on Sunday, August 17th. Be sure to tune
Getting 'over it'You're special and unique, just like everybody else.
The magnanimous Dr. Maya Angelou once said, "We are more alike, my friends, than we are different." This statement is more true than it may appear on the surface. As humans, we all face the same fears (not being adequate or liked) and the same struggles (with anxiety, depression, and others of life's challenges), even though they may seem different at the time. Sometimes the magnitude is different, perhaps, but we all want to belong and be accepted.
It's so easy to get caught in the trap of thinking, "No one understands me. I'm all alone." That may or may not be the case, but either way, whether it is reality or perception (and really, reality is perception), we cannot let it defeat us. Take a look around DeviantArt, and even the mental-health community. We all have pain, and we all suffer something or other in our lives. Again, it may be a difference in magnitude, but it is part of being human.

You CAN Do It Too! Commissions, Exposure, and...
Do you feel like no one cares about your artwork? That no matter how hard you try, you'll never improve? Well, I've been there before.
A little less than a year ago, I didn't even have 100 watchers. It was tough trying to find commissions, even though I priced them around 10 - 100 an hour. Sure, I had some wonderful people supporting me (thank you very much for that!), but when I looked at the thousands of diehard fans the "popular" artists had, I felt kinda useless. It seemed like even a thousand watchers, or just being able to earn minimum wage was impossible. Sometimes I wanted to cry from all the effort I put in. I kept drawing and drawing but barely improving. I was frustrated and felt useless. But instead of giving up, I pushed myself even harder, and by God's grace it's starting to work out for me.
I now have over 16,000 amazing people encouraging me, and I know it's only a matter of tim
Avoid That dAramaAnyone who has been an internet user for a period of time should know that drama is one of the hallmarks of the absolutely wonderful technology that allows us to be connected 24/7. It's like glitter, one moment all you see is just a fleck of it then suddenly, it's everywhere. DeviantArt is chock full of massive amounts of it (drama, not glitter!) at any given time, so let's talk about what you need to know to avoid it (aaaand what to do if you find yourself in it)!
I just caused the argument because... I wanted to get more pageviews, I wanted to be popular, for the lulz, I was bored
I ALWAYS have to reply

Freelance Paychecks are RealA few weeks back while thinking about this journal, I came across a forum for paid photojournalism jobs. I left it some time later in complete shock. There I found posting after posting about jobs paying nothing, next to nothing, or promising payment and then paychecks never arriving in the mail. I sat there, closed the laptop lid, and thought for a long while.
I know I’m fortunate to be paid for what I do. A big part of this is because I specialize in something very few photographers are doing at a professional level. But what most people don’t realize is that even at this level a large percentage of my workload involves pay negotiations. There are contracts that took months of negotiation. Some took weeks, or a single week, or several days, or a flurry of emails or texts in just a few minutes.
Every single one of those initially low-balled me; offering me starting contracts at 10-20% of my regular rate. And despite publications th

FAQ: Where do I submit book covers?Hiya!
I've seen a few people lately asking where they should submit book covers when they are uploading them to dA. First, they should NOT be submitted to Digital Art > Photomanipulation unless they are simply the image (e.g. they do not have an author, title, etc.).
So, where do they go if they are actually book layouts (with author and title)?
You can submit them here: Designs & Interfaces > Editorial Design.
I hope that helps.
