Welcome to mental-health
. In our group, we will feature a different mental health topic every month. You do not have to have a mental illness to join. Many of us do not have mental illnesses. You only have to care and want to make a difference!
What is Positive Psychology?
Positive psychology is a fairly new branch of psychology that focuses on assets rather than deficits. In other words, rather than worrying about what diseases a person has (deficit based), this branch focuses on using people's own skills, abilities, and talents to create positivity in their lives (asset based).
What makes you happy? Positive psychology is about resilience and building upon your own strengths. Think about the things in your own life that make you resilient, or able to withstand or "bounce back" from life's stressors. Examples might include your religion, your family and friends, your education, and your hobbies (such as art). The field is very multidisciplinary in that you can use anything from cognitive methods to yoga and meditation (or any combination thereof) to train your mind and body to thrive and be well.
How are we going to celebrate?
Always, but especially this month, our group is going to accentuate the positive here on deviantART. We will submit and ask you to submit positive art that makes you smile, laugh, be inspired, or just feel good to our Happiness and Positivity folder
We will also share up-to-date scientific information that might interest you (such as why laughter really IS good medicine!) and have some other activities for you. At the end of the month, we would like to feature the art submitted this month.
Finally, look out for some interviews and stories on happiness.
Won't you join in?
Anyone can be a member of our group, but we ask that you state why you want to join when you click the button.
