We're pleased to announce the results of the first ever Feedback Frenzy competition, held in early July as part of Project Educate's Feedback Week! Did you miss the competition? You can read all about it here!
Thank you for your patience in waiting for the results; we've had a lot of work in figuring out the winners from thousands of critiques!
Scoring
We had nearly 2,000 critiques during the event! There were over 160 members who were divided into 40 teams. Between them, there were thousands of deviations to be critiqued! The teams had one week to critique as many deviations as possible-- BUT to do so while maintaining the high standard of quality we are so proud to have here on deviantART!
It's easy to write a lot of comments, but it's difficult to write a lot of phenomenal comments! In scoring, we focused on both quantity and quality of critiques. In other words, we considered how well something was written in addition to the number of critiques the person wrote. After all, should someone who wrote 100 really terrible critiques be counted more than someone who wrote a handful of excellent ones? We took all of these factors into consideration.
Critiques were rated from 0 to 50 points following a ten-question rubric. Using this rubric made scoring very objective: If the deviant did x, y, and z, he would get 3 points, but he would only get 2 if he did only x and y. There is little room for interpretation. We analyzed the manner in which the feedback was given, looking at both positive and negative aspects of the feedback given and the overall usefulness of the critique. So, every critique got a score, which means that if you had 10 critiques, you got 10 scores. We took the average of those critique scores and then statistically weighted it by the number of critiques you performed to obtain a final individual score for you. Then, we combined individual scores into team scores.
