Hey, #GimmeFeedback! Talk to me! :D

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 8, 2013, 6:19 AM
Hi guys!

I'm back in the Founder's seat of #GimmeFeedback due to some time constraints ~Hixateez had. I'm waffling between just deleting the group versus trying activities one more time. This is such a cool project and was the first of its kind; I hate to just delete it. That being said, alllllll I am doing these days is declining deviations because people are not reading the rules and providing feedback BEFORE posting.

I am willing to give it one more go if you are. ~Hixateez had some really really cool ideas, including featuring members and having more educational blogs. I'm open to anything, but the thing is I don't have a whole ton of time right now. So, I'll need partners here who can do more than offer to help-- that is, who will actually roll up their sleeves and get a bit dirty. I promise to do the same.

There are a lot of things we can do together:

:bulletpink: I don't know if you've seen my Feedback journals for the photomanipulation community over in #communityrelations; Here is an example. We could do something like that here, if people would participate.

:bulletpink: Another thing that I've always wanted to do would be a mentoring program. But, a lot of people don't have time to mentor. A year or so ago I had the plan of partnering with #seniormentors, and I'm willing to pursue that again if people are interested.

:bulletpink: Also, people have expressed interest in a contest. What kind of contest do you want? We have done a "Before and After" competition (for the group, not for dA) on a couple of prior occasions. The first went well. The second, meh . . . Dare we try a third? Or, do you have better ideas?

:bulletpink: Feedback "tag" worked in another group. In this activity, I give you feedback and "tag" you.... and when you get tagged, you tag the next person by providing them feedback, etc. Ideally, it goes in a circle.

:bulletpink: Finally, there needs to be more features for you. We are working on how best to do that.

So, if we do decide to move forward, I would need one or more admins in charge of each thing:

:bulletblack: Weekly features admin (basically 1 or 2 blogs per week)

:bulletblack: Education admin(s) (maybe gather some tutorials or write once a week on a particular subject, like composition, lighting, color theory, etc. etc. etc.)

:bulletblack: Games admin(s) (e.g. organize stuff like Feedback Tag)

Are you interested? I'm looking for people who not only say "hey, I'll help," but who actually WILL help by taking an idea and running with it, making it their own without my having to push/remind you. Note the group if you are interested.

I'll continue to do basic admin stuff, approving and declining deviations, working on partnerships, working with the education and features teams, building things like CSS and other "fancy" stuff, and promoting us around dA.

Are you with me? How many active members/watchers do we have, anyway? Please shout back at me if you want to keep the group alive, even if you are not able to help or interested in helping. If I just hear my own voice echoing, I will take that as a sign that you're no longer interested.

Thanks! :D

Jade

Hello... I've always thought this group has great idea behind it, but I've never been as active as I'd like to be. I can recall many times I've started browsing deviations to critique but have ended up giving very few of them, possibly because very few submissions have info about what areas the artist wants to get critique on. It's frustrating cause my mind tends to start producing very very long lists of things that could be improved, and I just don't have the mind to write a bible under every painting I see. :P In my mind someone looking for serious critique should be able to tell a little bit more about what they want to concentrate on than "what do you think of this?".
That said, I would be very interested in this mentoring thing, if you have me. :D I'm no pro but I think I would be able to give some helpful pointers to determined beginners. Aaaand traditional/digital painting/drawing would be my areas of "expertise" :P
How have you thought to organize mentoring? :) If it comes to be..
I realize I answer a little late, my laptop is in maintenance.

No, you're not late. this is actually a good reminder to me to get back on it. :) I don't have a concrete plan, but let's talk about it! I'll post a journal about it!

Sounds good! :) I have no idea how this would actually work, but something that would bring questions straight to my inbox would be nice for me anyway. :D

I love this group too, lately I haven't been doing art as much and haven't felt like submitting art for feedback either since most of the artwork I did do wasn't a finished piece or was too simple. I'd be a pity to see this group go under it really is something special. I've never found another feedback group that was as effective.

I would hate to see this group fold. I have enjoyed this group since I first discovered it. I haven't been able to give much time to :devart: much less this group, or any other for that matter. But if there is anything that I can do, it would be my pleasure to do it.

It does seem like there is always something coming up to take time away from the hobbies!:tighthug:

Hi there!
I've been very busy with school and haven't really had much time to even be on DA, but I'm sure you remember what I said when I explained why I had to leave the admin area^^;

Anyway, as far as this group goes, I suppose the 1 critique per 1 deviation is a good idea for now at least. I personally still think 2 critiques per 1 deviation is better because that way we get more critique in the group, but it would appear that most think that 1 per 1 would motivate them more.
I'm liking any sort of feature idea that this group will come up with! Of course, since it was one of my suggestions XD
The tag seems like a lot of fun and what you did at #communityrelations doesn't seem like a bad idea at all, either:)

Good luck, ^SanguineVamp and all the admins:heart:
