In other words, it is a deviation that ROCKS and that we think everyone should have the pleasure of seeing!
DDs are important because:

6 Fatal Flaws for PhotomanipulationHey everyone!
After nearly a month (!!!) of viewing DD suggestions and generally browsing around the community looking for new and interesting things to feature, I have come up with a list of the most common mistakes that photomanipulators make. Other photomanip CVs, especially `kuschelirmel, `conzpiracy, and `IreneLangholm, have posted a lot of great articles and tutorials about each of the items I'm going to discuss. I therefore will not go into terribly much detail right at this time. I'll be happy to re-address them in later articles.
What is our primary goal in making a photomanipulation? We want it to be seamless, right? We want to transport the viewers into another world and make them believe that it is real.
Let's talk about some dead giveaways that break that illusion.

There has been a lot of chatter in our community lately over what a photomanipulation is and isn't, and how our gallery differs from other galleries / artistic categories.
A good many of you-- individuals as well as groups-- have written or shared "What is a photomanipulation?" journals and blogs over the past couple of days. It really shows how much you care about the community, and I applaud you for it.

We all can learn a lot from each other.
As a Photomanipulation Community Volunteer, I wanted to share my understanding of it and to offer all of you my support.

As we are all aware now, dA espouses the following definition:
Photomanipulations are images that have been composed of two or more photographic elements to create something new.

I need your help with something, if you don't mind.

I've been digging pretty seriously through deviation after deviation, looking for DDs to feature to show everyone how awesome our community is. And, oh my gosh, you guys, I found two that are BREATHTAKING

that I really, really wanted to feature. But-- you guessed it-- they did not credit their stock resources.

This isn't just a problem that I have as a CV.
I still love saying that! I'm a CV!!
Lack of crediting is a problem that affects the entire photomanipulation community, and you should and must care about it. Here's why:
It impacts what we can and cannot submit to groups, features, DDs, etc.It is contagious; when one artist does not credit, others tend to follow suit.It is unethical not to give someone credit for their hard work. Plus, it is against dA policy. Oh, and it violates copyright law.IT

Manip Challenges #001If you've been on dA for a while, you may remember the manip challenges I used to run. The original manip challenges were chat based 2 hour challenges, but as I don't have that kind of time any more (the event would be all day long, with 3 to 5 challenges in succession), I decided to adapt them to be two weeks long and not in a chatroom instead.
UPDATE:
Wow! What a response! We're through the first week (still one to go!) of the challenge and already there are over 20 entries!

PE Article: Tips and Advice 'Atmosphere'Give your Stock some intensity.
By intensity i mean, playing with lighting and shadow to create a more intense stock portrait.
Using lighting is perfectly fine. Lighting of model stock adds a great reference for drawing/painting from.Also lighting adds atmosphere to an image and can really help to enhance the final result.
I took some mini portrait shots using a few (not all) types of lighting you could consider!
Having a few stock images/sets like this can really be useful and make your stock gallery more diverse.

Here the image contains natural light, nothing special. The advantage with natural light is that you get an image with true colours. Which can be great for skintone practice! The disadvantage is added noise and loss of quality, but with the right equipment you can get great results. PE Photomanip: Let there be LIGHT!Light in Photomanipulation

Getting your light right when creating a photomanipulation sounds easy . . . until you sit down to try to do it! There are seemingly endless things to keep in mind: where the light source is, the intensity of the light, how pieces of your manipulation need to be composed so that they line up with the direction of the light in the piece, whether there could be multiple light sources, what color the light will be. . . .
And the goal for light in your manipulation is for the light to be consistent throughout so that it is telling a story. No pressure! It is not an overstatement to say that light will make or break your manipulation; I have declined many DD suggestions because of bad lighting.

Light can help you tell a story and is critical to your deviation. It adds emphasis, adds depth, contributes to realism, and draws the viewer's attention to where you want it to be

My Photomanip DD Guidelines

Hello everyone!

I gladly welcome all Daily Deviation (DD) suggestions and am always excited to receive them from you. Here are some things to keep in mind to help increase your suggested deviation's chances of being accepted as a Daily Deviation!

DDs are meant to showcase the best deviations that the community has to offer. Anyone, popular or not, can receive a DD if they do exemplary work. That means you!

For a better understanding of what they are and their purpose, you can visit FAQ #61: What is a Daily Deviation? .

Basic Requirements

No matter how phenomenal it is, I cannot even consider your suggestion:

If it is not a photomanipulation. This means it needs to be in the category Digital Art > Photomanipulation. [Although . . . I may consider Mixed Media (Digital Art > Mixed Media).] See Continuing the Photomanip Conversation.
If the artist does not credit stock sources properly by, at the very least, linking to the stock artist's page or the website (such as dreamstime or Stock Exchange) from which he or she obtained the image. Credit must be provided for every element in the image, not just the model or the background. If the stock belongs to the artist, it would be great if the artist could state that in the comments.
If the artist does not use legitimate stock images. Google is NOT a legitimate stock source, and art that uses images found from Google and other illegitimate sources can be removed by dA staff. For more information: FAQ #217: What are "Stock and Resources" and can I use them in my submissions?
If the deviant has had a Daily Deviation in the past 6 months. For more information: FAQ #313: How can I find out if someone already has a Daily Deviation?

What is "Exemplary"?

The deviation should:

Stand out both in comparison to the rest of the artist's gallery and against the rest of the photomanipulations on dA.
Be technically incredible-- including, but not limited to, having good lighting and seamless blending.
Have a discernible concept and be more than just "pretty."

The Intangibles

The deviation you suggest should demonstrate:

Originality and creativity: Did the artist make a concept his/her own?
Excellence: Is this the best he/she can do; does it stand out from the rest of his/her gallery and the gallery at-large?
Heart: the deviant should have put some thought into it and taken time with the deviation in order to make a great product.
"Wow!" factor: It should make you want to study it for a little while.

Suggesting a DD

I love DD suggestions! Here are some things to keep in mind:

You can suggest one deviation per note. Please include THUMBNAILS, not links. This helps me better keep track of who suggested what very quickly.
It is okay to suggest yourself! You don't have to be listed as suggester if you suggest yourself, so you don't need to worry about modesty.
If you want to be an anonymous suggester, please let me know. If you do not specify that you want to remain anonymous, I will include your name on the DD.
I usually respond to notes just to let you know that I received them. However, I will generally not tell you whether or not I am going to feature your suggestion.
Please include a brief comment about why you think this piece is so awesome! It really helps me (and the community) understand where you are coming from.

Be Considerate.

Only suggest something to one member of the Community Relations Team or Community Volunteer. If your suggestion is not featured, why not suggest something else?
I will not KNOWINGLY feature something someone else has already declined to feature.
DD features are not popularity contests. Please don't have your friends spam me (or anyone else) with requests to feature your art.

When you Disagree

Not everyone will agree with every DD; that's just the way life is. What fun would it be if we all had the same tastes in art?

But, each one was chosen carefully and for a reason. If you disagree with a DD that I featured, you should tell me about it via note. I am happy to explain why I chose it, and I am happy to hear your point of view. Yes, really!

Or, if you would prefer, you can contact $Moonbeam13, Director of Community Relations. Please do not write hurtful or overly critical things on the artist's page, though; it is not their fault that they received a DD. See FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?.
