Photomanipulation Week here at #projecteducate has been phenomenal, and that is entirely thanks to you, our viewers, and to the community members who made it happen. Our community wrote most of the articles; I just posted them. Our community interviewed many, many people and answered what had to have seemed like endless questions about how they do their stuff. And do you know, of the many people I asked, only one or two were unable? People contributed in spite of busy schedules, poor health conditions, other projects, and other competing demands because they knew this was important. I cannot thank you enough.
I wanted to show you the sheer number of people (well over 40) who participated in this event. Every one of these people made a significant contribution. Please, everyone show some love to the deviants who made this week possible (and then keep reading; more good stuff coming below this list):

A tour in the world of Surreal Photomanipulations
For years, surreal photomanipulation and its artists have been showing a great variety of works in this style, surprising and inspiring to all of us with their images. If you already had the pleasure to see pieces of this genre, I´m sure you´ve been amazed with what a surreal piece can offer, but if you haven´t . . . what better time than this one to learn and see the incredible options this style have for you?

The photomanipulation community will have a blog on July 26th as part of #ArtHistoryProject's Traditional Art Month. I know what you're thinking: "But you're digital art, and this is Traditional Art Month." Answer: Conceptual art deals with ideas rather than with the final product. It is "art in which the idea behind a particular work, and the means of producing it, are more important than the finished work." http://dictionary.com

Conceptual art, a movement conceived in the 1960s, stresses the artist's concept rather than the art object itself. You know, as photomanipulators, we rely pretty heavily on the stock and resources community, and the opposite is true as well. It is because of this symbiotic relationship that both communities flourish, growing and evolving off of each other. Because of stock artists here on dA and elsewhere, we are able to create our manipulations. Stock inspires us; it drives us to create by capturing in visual image format that which we envision in our minds. So, for our Project Educate week, I sat down to have a conversation with ^Elandria, one of our Community Volunteers (CVs) for stock and resources and a fantastic digital artist, who I am fortunate enough to call a friend as well as a colleague.

I'm here, just working on several things at once. :XD: I have to split time between dA and school (for those of you who don't know, I'm halfway through a Ph.D. program). My dA attention is divided between Photomanipulation month in #projecteducate and Dante's Inferno in #Halloween-HQ. I've really appreciated your DD suggestions.

As a CV, I have gotten to know a lot of people and had an opportunity to appreciate their art, and they continually blow me away! But, there are many other artists out there who I would very much like to know as well. The hard part is finding them. :P

The status quo in the photomanipulation community is GO! GO! GO! We have been extremely busy with creating, supporting one another, and dreaming up contests and other fun challenges. I have been delayed in reporting our news for personal reasons, so this news article is jam-packed with goodness that you, the photomanipulation community, need to know!

Calling on Community Leaders
We have a wonderful photomanipulation community here, and I'm really honored to serve you all as your Community Volunteer (CV). I have been trying to post weekly news, conduct interviews and do features, post DDs, organize Project Educate and other community challenges, host critique events, and hold contests that I hope are challenging and interesting. I absolutely love doing all of this, but I am also trying to get a Ph.D. and am going to run into trouble juggling it all in the Fall.

PE Photomanip: Let there be LIGHT!Light in Photomanipulation



Getting your light right when creating a photomanipulation sounds easy . . . until you sit down to try to do it! There are seemingly endless things to keep in mind: where the light source is, the intensity of the light, how pieces of your manipulation need to be composed so that they line up with the direction of the light in the piece, whether there could be multiple light sources, what color the light will be. . . .
And the goal for light in your manipulation is for the light to be consistent throughout so that it is telling a story. No pressure! It is not an overstatement to say that light will make or break your manipulation; I have declined many DD suggestions because of bad lighting. :XD:
Light can help you tell a story and is critical to your deviation. It adds emphasis, adds depth, contributes to realism, and draws the viewer's attention to where you want it to be

Photomanip News and Feature - June 30thHi everyone,
I am so very fortunate as the Photomanipulation CV to be able to work with some incredible artists and a wonderful and very creative gallery. I've promised them to do weekly photomanipulation features of one sort or another to expose as many of our artists as possible. So, I wanted to share some underexposed works of art with you today, and I hope you will take a moment to go check them out! I promise you will not be disappointed.

Hi, everyone! :wave:

We are overdue for a feature of works and news from the photomanipulation gallery. People in our community have been busier than ever, and I'm so excited to share some of the goings-on with you. Let's get started!

Contests

  • Don't forget about our community-wide When Darkness Falls photomanipulation competition! Great prizes are to be won, including premium memberships, deviantWear, stock and resources, features, and tons of points! Plus, it's an excellent opportunity to put to use everything we all learned during Project Educate: Photomanipulation!
  • :new: Feedback Frenzy! contest Give and receive high-quality feedback on your work and meet lots of new deviants in the process! Fun! Teamwork! Learning! Not to mention awesome prizes!! :D This contest is part of Project Educate's Feedback Week, July 2nd-8th. Be sure you are watching #projecteducate, even if you don't participate in the activities!
  • :new: The Other Side of Me is a brand new competition (not just for photomanipulators) in which you are challenged to depict what your "other" side (the side you hide from the world) would look like! Looks like there are going to be some great prizes and plenty of opportunities to stretch your imagination and get that creativity flowing.
  • `kuschelirmel's Manip Challenge #002 is underway! This is a great way to practice your photomanipulation, hone your skills, show off your stuff, and have a great time.
