Reminder about Stock Usage for Photomanip Contest

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 18, 2013, 10:01 AM
Hi all,

Don't forget about our photomanipulation contest:

Photomanipulation Contest: Rebirth and RenewalWelcome to the latest community competition for Photomanipulation!
This is the official kick-off blog for the latest, greatest EXTREME PHOTOMANIPULATION CONTEST here on dA! The contest is backed by #communityrelations with HUGE prizes and hosted by #CRPhotomanipulation. This journal describes the rules for the contest. Please read it carefully.
What we mean by "Extreme" photomanipulation
You should reach beyond your comfort zone and create a deviation that is bold, unique, and better than you thought you could create. Try something new. Break the mold. You've got this!
We have HUGE prizes. So, we are expecting HUGE results.
Theme: Rebirth and Renewal
Our theme, Rebirth and Renewal, was suggested by administrators of #CRPhotomanipulation. You are hereby challenged to create a photomanipulation that shows rebirth and/or renewal. For example, it could sh

Important:

I want to remind you that, if you are going to use png or psd stock, you need to make sure the stock provider has stated where they got the stock from. If you don't know, ask. If you are still not sure, don't use it. Stock providers need explicit permission from the original photographer / provider to share stock that is not theirs with you, even if they changed it.

The same thing goes for premade backgrounds. Sometimes, stock providers will get stock from places like sxc.hu or even pay-for stock sites like shutterstock.com, and then they make premades out of that stock and offer them to you. This is illegal UNLESS the stock provider has EXPLICIT permission from the ORIGINAL photographer and/or stock site to do so. So, again, check with the stock provider and make sure the stock is legitimate before using it.

On the other hand, this is an "extreme manpulation" contest designed to test your boundaries and push you beyond your limits. Why not make your own backgrounds and cut out your own pieces of stock? :P

I have already declined a few pieces with bad stock, and I don't want to decline yours. You only get 2 entries, after all.

Thanks,

Jade

Please be careful with premade backgrounds and psd stock!

I wish stock providers would be more careful ><. Half of the resources are either not credited or just stolen. Gah.
Thanks for the reminder :).

Hey Jade, I've been gathering up the trusted members of the stock community (and still in the process of it) in a group called #Safe-Stock-Resources if that helps any. The requirement for membership is that their entire gallery needs to be following da terms and guidelines to the letter. :D I got tired of seeing some fantastic stock providers that do follow the rules being lost in the shuffle of Bieberites and 'render' mongers. That way they can be featured in the group, and it keeps those posers who would abuse a stamp, out. :)
