Community Question: "This is a question from me & my fellow photo-manipulators who doesn't use pen tablets. Oftentimes, We struggle in painting the skin. We use the 'smudge' tool but it doesn't work all the time. Realistic skin is hard to fake because it's both an artistic and a technical challenge. It's artistic because you can almost feel a character's personality through the look of its skin; its wrinkles, colours and beauty spots. Is there any techniques where we can achieve beautiful skin?"

Sometimes in our line of work we don't have a lot to show for a long time because lets be honest, production time for film or animation takes an awful long time so it's difficult to show people what you're working on. Project Educate: Expressing and EmotingEssentially, these are mostly the same thing with a few minor differences which are explained below. But before we move onto that, there's an important message to share when it comes to categorising your work. To get the best out of the photography galleries it's vitally important that you categorise your work properly. That' why these weeks exist in some respects, to help educate you through that. With regards to Daily Deviations - Community Volunteers will not give features to pieces of work that are mis-categorised. They might assist you by moving your work or explaining where it should go, but seeing a deliberate miscat is a bit off-putting when it comes to choosing pieces to showcase. Take some time to have a look through your gallery (I'm going to do the same!) and figure out if everything is in the right place. If you're struggling, just ask. We're here to help. What we won't do is rearrange your whole gallery for you. We will however, work with you to try and straighten things

I prefer to shoot all of my portraiture and people photography as candidly as possible. I believe that capturing people unawares gives them no time to organize their facial expressions and consider arranging their emotions. Eyes, are the windows to the soul - as they say, and if you're making someone stand and pose (which works well a lot of the time) you're closing off the honest

Earlier this week I was stalking a photography forum (because it's where all the cool kids are) and I noticed somebody claiming to be a fairly professional photographer angling for information on the best mega-pixels D-SLR camera they could get in order to stabilise their images. Well anybody who knows even a tiny inkling about Photography will very quickly jump on that as most of us know full well that no matter how many megapixels you've got, they aren't worth a thing without a steady hand or more importantly a good sturdy tripod. I never was a firm believer in a tripod and even now, I rarely use it. However I use any number of things to stabilise myself when shooting whether that involves lying in a bed of flowers, resting against a wall or indeed using the nearest person (which I don't recommend - people sway!) Weather Photography has always fascinated me - the weather in general does anyway, but capturing those changes, shifts in atmosphere and so on have always had me in awe. However when browsing the latest news within popular photography early this week I was stunned by an image that NASA had captured of hurricane Isaac as it lurked over the USA. I've been in a hurricane before, but it never felt as organised or precise as this image shows. This shows a smooth beautiful cloud formation. When below it's likely wreaking havoc and destroying lives. It's difficult to match the two together and contemplate them as the same thing. After a bit of ado, we are happy to introduce some new challenges that we hope will inspire some more creativity in our community as well as encourage ALL of us (ourselves included) to learn some new skills and expand our repertoire!

For these challenges, we will require the use of one piece of stock that, while lovely and very useful, might typically be considered "overused," and one new skill or technique.
We know there are a lot of challenges out there already, but here are the goals for ours:

To address concerns of "copying" and "lack of creativity" by challenging people to think more creatively about their art,

To help members of our community learn more and expand their skills by challenging them to learn new techniques, and

To maintain the focus of our community on art, growth, and support.

I'm doing the article series as a way to promote smaller facets of the larger categories, in hopes of sharing what I find and maybe you'll like it.
Today is April 19th, and here's What's Hot? in this category:
Digital Art > Drawings and Paintings > SciFi
Digital Science fiction depicting speculative scientific discoveries, space travel and scenes, and other world life forms.
I begin with this category because it is personally my favourite to browse. When I need inspired and want to get some creative juices flowing, I turn to this gallery to jump-start the process. I read a great deal of SciFi books, watch movies and television series, and even have found myself playing card and role-play games centered aro

Categorising Darkroom - Digital or Traditional?On dA, the galleries for Darkroom Photography are split into two categories - Digital and Traditional.
Digital Darkroom is for Photographs which have been digitally processed or edited with the use of computer software to emulate traditional and alternative film darkroom techniques.

Traditional Darkroom is for Scans of photographic prints and negatives where the images have been physically developed and/or printed using traditional and alternative film darkroom techniques. This gallery is not for digitally created or edited images.

It seems like an obvious difference, right? How much further explaining really needs to be done? Well, just a little, because there are a few exceptions to what you might assume to be hard and fast rules.
The Rule
Photos created with the involvement of a digital camera should never be placed in Darkroom > Traditional.

As far as I can see, both articles are featured in the group, so how come they are missing?

They were featured in the journal but we wanted to have them in the gallery folders as well to help people more easily find them. Because you entered it directly onto the group's journal rather than using Sta.sh (which is fine), we had to add a separate blog via stash directing people to them so that we could submit something to the galleries. I hope that made sense.

Btw there's a "Vector Week Intro" in the Street folder which needs to be put in the right place
