Hi everyone,

So . . . for our "The Wow Effect" month here at we-HEART-photomanip, I wanted to show some of my favorite photomanipulations of all time and explain why they are so amazing to me. Let's get started!

I'm starting with something a little bit older, but it is my favorite piece on deviantART. Foxfires has captured a very precious moment for the main character. See how the light seems to make her glow, illuminating and softening her expression, lifting her hair, giving her dimension? The light around the model is hard but not overpowering, and the lamps are clearly lit without being overdone. The surroundings, while bright and colorful, are less bright and colorful, and the shape of the wagon and the lines in the ladder draw the viewer's eye up to the model. Also, did you notice the fox? :D

I very much like the composition of this image; the viewer's eye is drawn to the model's left eye, and the light and the curvature of the fish direct the viewer's eye to her face. The clever use of texture and painting provide a sense of movement and depth. Again we have the interplay of light and dark, which is again a really cool technique for adding depth and bringing attention to the face. Overall, ilona-veresk has created another really effective fantasy piece.

Bath by tamaraR

tamaraR has created a beautiful fantasy scene here, complete with appropriate light and shadows. Once again, the shape of the tail, the bubbles, and the model's arms bring attention to her face, which in turn leads the viewer's eye toward the glowing sphere. The artist does a brilliant job with storytelling for this image; the viewer begins to wonder what the mermaid's story is and why she is in a tub! The light in this image is soft except for where the artist wants to accentuate a glow. The artist has also shown great choices in stock selection when creating her image.

Venus by MichaelO

No "best of" collection is complete without something from MichaelO. This incredible creation is a demonstration of how good manipulation skills, some imagination, and some craftmanship with painting can go a long way to tell a story. I like the fact that the hues are complementary here; it helps add depth to the image and also to bring it together cohesively. I also like the way texturing is used to add a bit of depth and drama to the piece; I really think it adds a nice flair. Here, too, the way the lighting is done is consistent and not heavy-handed.
